Woman disembowels teen and steals fetus

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- A Pennsylvania woman has been charged in the slaying of an 18-year-old woman who was found with her uterus cut open and her fetus removed, authorities said Sunday.
Andrea Curry-Demus is charged with homicide in the death of a woman whose uterus was cut open.

Andrea Curry-Demus is charged with homicide in the death of a woman whose uterus was cut open.

Andrea Curry-Demus, 38, of Wilkinsburg was charged Sunday with criminal homicide -- Pennsylvania's equivalent of murder -- kidnapping and unlawful restraint in connection with last week's death of Kia Johnson, Allegheny County police Superintendent Charles Moffatt said.

Police found Johnson's body in Curry-Demus' apartment Friday, two days after Curry-Demus arrived at a hospital with a newborn and falsely claimed that the baby was hers, authorities said. Police have not confirmed whether the infant belonged to Johnson, whose family reported her missing last week.

Johnson's eviscerated body -- which police said they found after receiving calls about a foul odor coming from the apartment -- "was in a state of moderate decomposition," and she had been dead about two days, Medical Examiner Karl Williams said. The cause of death hasn't been determined, he said.

The woman's hands and feet were bound by duct tape, police said. A placenta was found at the scene, Williams told reporters.

Authorities said they used dental records to confirm Johnson's identity.

74yo woman tries to buy beer after crashing car into shop

NORWALK - A 74-year-old woman ploughed her car through the front window of a convenience store and then tried to buy a six-pack of beer, police and the owner say.

Lynne Rice drove her 1988 Cadillac into Joe's Food Mart and Video on Sunday evening, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lieutenant Jenny Ha said.

The car ploughed about halfway through the store but nobody was injured.

Rice got out of the car, walked over to the cooler and pulled out a six-pack of Budweiser beer, said the store owner, who gave only his last name, Awada, to the Long Beach Press-Telegram.

"I don't know how she managed to walk," Awada said, adding a cashier declined the sale and instead called police.

Rice was taken to a hospital for examination because she had a pre-existing medical condition, Ha said.

She was also arrested for investigation of misdemeanour driving under the influence and released on $US15,000 ($A15,700) bail, authorities said.

Rice could not be reached for comment today.

Awada said the crash destroyed two two-metre-wide glass panels. Damage was put at about $US8,000 ($A8,355).

Mum organises rape of her daughter

A north Brisbane couple who made a pregnancy pact to inseminate their 15-year-old daughter after bearing two biological children with congenital diseases have been sentenced to jail.

The girl's 39-year-old mother and 35-year-old stepfather, who cannot be identified under Queensland law, penned a handwritten "contract" with the girl, before the man began having daily sex with her over two-and-a-half months in late 2006.

The couple also tried to inject her with the man's sperm in a bid to conceive, Brisbane's District Court heard yesterday.

The woman, who advised the man on the best sexual positions to help impregnate her daughter, will serve just six months behind bars after pleading guilty to one count of maintaining a sexual relationship with a child. Her husband was handed an eight-year term for the same charge.

Woman cuts baby from living mother to steal child

A heavily-pregnant woman has died from stab wounds after being tied up and having her unborn child cut from her womb, US authorities said today.
Washington police have arrested a 23-year-old woman who has been accused of murder and trying to pass the baby off as her own.

Authorities said the boy was in hospital in a critical condition.

His 27-year-old mother Araceli Camacho Gomez was close to, but not quite full-term when the child was cut from her body and she was left to die late last week.

Police in Kennewick suspect local woman Phiengchai Sisouvanh Synhavong used a box cutter to rip the child from Gomez's body.

Court documents revealed gloves soaked in blood, a boxcutter, bloody paper towels, string, a baby bottle and baby socks were among some of the items found in Synhavong's bag.

The documents said Gomez had her hands and feet bound during the attack.

She suffered "massive trauma to her stomach area'' which was "consistent with the cutting of the body to remove an unborn child,'' the documents said.

A post-mortem examination showed she died of stab wounds to her chest.
Her body was found early on Saturday in a park in Kennewick, near the border with Oregon.

Authorities say Synhavong had tried to pass the boy off as her own when she contacted the ambulance service on Friday night.

Synhavong is being held without bail. She is due to face court again on Wednesday.

3 women strangle and cut up infant for being a witch

PACHUCA, Mexico - Three women have confessed to strangling and cutting into pieces a woman and her three-month-old daughter because they feared they were witches, Mexican police said today.

Pachuca police spokesman Norberto Munoz said the remains of the woman and her infant were found "with signs of having been strangled, quartered and burned".

The three female suspects - who police have not named - were arrested "and declared that they committed the crime to stop supposed acts of witchcraft of the mother and her daughter," Munoz said.

The remains of the victims were found in the ashes of a furnace in the town of Coyuya, an indigenous town in the mountain region of Hidalgo state.

Woman cuts and runs from court

A 30-year-old woman has jumped the dock and escaped from custody as she appeared in a NSW court on traffic-related charges.

Police say Amanda Gall was awaiting sentencing in the local court in Raymond Terrace, north of Newcastle, about 11.30am (AEST) yesterday.

"At the time of the incident she was secured in the dock inside the courtroom," a police spokesman said today.

"Prior to Corrective Services attending the court room, the woman jumped out of the dock and ran towards the door.

"Following a struggle with police, the woman escaped."

Anyone who has information on her whereabouts is urged to contact the Lower Hunter Local Area Command on 02 4934 0200, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Dad's horror at axe deaths

As the children's bodies were taken to the morgue in Newcastle, their distraught father, Darrell Hodges, said: "I'm still waiting for someone to come and switch the remote and turn the movie off, because that's what it feels like - someone's bad movie … I'm devastated."

Mr Hodges, a former policeman who lives in the Lake Macquarie suburb of Bonnells Bay, said he had kept in contact with the children despite the breakdown of his relationship with their mother in 2003. He told Channel Seven that Senior Constable Walsh called him on Monday, warning that the killer might target him next. "She said, 'He's heading up to get you, so you'd better get out of there.' "

Mr Hodges had not seen his children for six months but he told the Herald they were very close.

"They adored each other. They looked out for each other. Kevin was pretty laid-back; for a seven-year-old he was pretty cool about everything. He was a quiet sort of kid and got on with the job.

"Jaime was the extrovert of the two of them but together they made a sensational pair who constantly amazed me."

Mr Hodges described his in-laws as loving grandparents who doted on his children.
